Victoria Kotchetov

My source of inspiration is all about fantasy, about adding a lot of bright colors, because I feel like there isn’t enough of them in our daily basis, especially in Montreal. I feel like adding colors makes everything more joyful and pleasant so I often go on Pinterest and look at pictures that bring me a sense of comfort and satisfaction, and I go from there.

My art process evolved while I was going through a hard phase in my life, when I often made sad black and white poker face portraits. I feel like a lost my creativity doing this. So when I started creating more happy images, it projected into my mindset and I started being happier. I also draw humans a lot, I’m someone who’s very social and I love how everyone is unique so drawing different characters in different situations makes me feel more connected to our world.

I begin my art making process by listening to music. I find music that makes me think, a perfect background calm music that helps me dig into my imagination. Then I scroll a little bit on Pinterest. It helps me capture the essence of my artwork. The rest comes alone while I sketch my work.

I also enjoy experimenting with digital art and paint. I find that digital art has so many options to work with. Talking about how I decide when I piece is finished, I decide when it matches the images I had in my head.
